Michelle is an experienced professional in the design industry who's expertise hails from design firms, creative agencies, and start-ups. She is skilled in integrated architectural and interior design, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration.&#38;nbsp;
Michelle holds a Master of Architecture from Yale University and a B.A. in Architecture with a focus on Urbanism in Developing Countries from University of California, Berkeley. Throughout her academic career, she advocated for socioeconomic and cultural inclusivity in the built environment, with curiosities at the intersection of space, identity, and social behavior. 
Today, Michelle is focused on emerging issues in housing, real-estate development, and elevating daily life through design.

		<description>Ambiguously Together


Centered on the theme of restorative justice, this community center reconciles relationships between those who have caused harmed, their victims, and affected community members. Due to the sensitive program, the design calls for enhanced privacy and a warm environment to foster vulnerable conversations. A site analysis began by mapping paths through the lot and their visual axis, the program is then introduced at key moments to block these connections, preventing recognition and creating ambiguity. Lastly, landscape and gathering spaces are added to invite the community in and welcome all types of visitors, ultimately protecting a victim or harmer’s visit.

		<description>AutohausA private, family-owned winery in California’s Napa Valley enslited our help to design a freestanding building that houses multi-functional programs such as office/administration, a residential apartment, indoor-outdoor social functions, a view deck for visitors, and last but not least, a central double-height gallery to display the family’s expansive classic car collection. The result is a 14,000 sf steel structure with a covered breezeway that bisects two volumes— one for work and auto storage with the other for play and recreation. The Autohaus features exposed w-beams and high-end finishes in supporting rooms to elevate the experience and serve as an extention of the winery brand.
The building is situated on an empty parcel of land overlooking the rolling hills of Saint Helena, with views to the west, north, and south. The primary (west) facade is articulated through a rhythm of glazing, vertical wooden slats to shade from the harsh California sun, and a screened trellis system for filtered light and shade at the ground level. Landscaping elements such as a serenity pool, olive trees, and low planters with lavendar and rosemary accent the site to welcome traquility and provide continuity to the valley’s natural landscape.IN COLLABORATION WITH WZ ARCHITECTURE

		<description>Wine Tasting PavilionA private, family-owned winery in California’s Napa Valley enslited our help to revisit their existing wine tasting facilities and visualize a modern yet rustic look that matches the local context. There are currently two buildings on-site–– a primary building which showcases wine storage, general tasting, and sales, and a smaller, secondary outdoor pavilion designed for recreational tastings.The tasting pavilion was an unpermited structure made of timber framing, a few shear walls, and concrete flooring. Our team reconceptualized the open pavilion into a wood-clad container with openings that framed views of surrounding Saint Helena. Cedar wood was chosen as the primary exterior cladding material, a kitchen-bar with high-end appliances and cabinetry was added to support the tasting functions, and interior furnishings were added to elevate the tasting experience.&#38;nbsp;
Full scope of work includes: exterior wood cladding, addition of kitchen-bar with undercounter refrigerators, wine coolers, stemware washers, sink and European Oak cabinetry, stone floor paving, pass-through bar window with awning, electrical extension, lighting fixtures, overhead heaters &#38;amp; ceiling fans for thermal comfort, and furniture selection.

		<description>Storefront - Luxury Watches &#38;amp; Fine JewelryThis family-owened, luxury watch and fine jewelry establishment has been a fixture of the San Francsico Bay Area since 1944. Over time, their existing storefront in Burlingame, CA was in need of an update. Our team worked to create a series of strorefront options and updated floor plan layouts for the family to choose from. From street view, it was critical to maximize glazing for an open facade, introduce a rich material palette of stones, bronze, and plaster, and add elevated back-lit signage and canopies to complement the luxury items sold within the boutique.Phase: SD&#38;nbsp;

		<description>Through Thick and Thin


The Roman Agro is a site that has become dormant and obsolete as its aging residents spend their time in Rome for work and recreation. This urban proposal explores modes of reinvigorating the neighborhood of Valle Canestra by commoning land resources and creating a self-sufficient economy, freed of its dependence on Rome. Interstitial “barrier strips” that are used to emphasize private property lines are observed as a potential site of intervention. By thickening these boundaries and occupying them with programs like kitchen-gardens, the thin property lines can become a community resource that neighboring residents tend to and cultivate. Over time, architectural and urban elements are introduced to restitch fragmented enclaves within the site and densify the  existing plots with migrants who assist with care.

		<description>Dissolving Walls


Low-income neighborhoods are typically characterized by layers of protective barriers such as walls, gates, and fences. This housing proposal in Mexico aims to dissolve such barriers. Using a base module, spatial variety is generated through strategies such as shifting and interlocking. In the name of post-privacy, courtyards, kitchens, laundry, and childcare are shared between a social unit of 6-10 residents. An internal street acts as a promenade where residents can re-purpose zones or engage publicly with neighbors. The project envisions various forms of living beyond the nuclear family, to ultimately accommodate many ways of living together.
